Women Development Committee of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management (SACCM) in collaboration with alumni association organised a session on the topic “Revisiting Gender Empowerment through the lens of interdependence” on 23rd September, 2022. The resource person for the session was Advocate Vasu Gupta, Practicing Criminal Law, District courts, Chandigarh who is also alumna of the college. Event coordinator Dr. Leenu Anand formally welcomed the speaker. Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar, principal of the college acclimatised the audience with the significance of sensitising young generation towards gender equity. Ms Vasu started the session mentioning the current scenario of gender inequality in our society where skills are taught according to the gender. Referring to the data on more suicidal rate among men, she mentioned men should be taught to express emotions. She emphasized the need of sensitising young generation towards gender equality. She concluded her session signifying the role of interdependence that if we seek respect, we should give respect; If we want to be understood we should understand first. Students asked many queries which were well answered by the resource person. The session was concluded by Dr. Jaspreet Kaur who expressed gratitude to the resource person.
