TEACHING LEARNING PROCESSES AT SACCM AIMED AT ACHIEVING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Teaching Learning Process

Increasing Effectiveness of Conventional

Conventional system of teaching, the most common method of imparting knowledge, is ‘teacher centric’ in nature. In this, the teacher is an active participant and student’s role is passive in nature confined to learning by listening and observation only. Also, because of large sized class, the degree of interaction within the class and the overall students’ participation is low. As a consequence, a teacher is not able to get complete feedback from students and hence, cannot judge students’ progress. To counter these problems and to maintain students’ interest, SACCM teachers use various pedagogical tools (like case studies, role plays, panel discussions, etc.) and teaching aids (like LCDs & other Multimedia devices) as per the requirements of a subject without over dependence on such teaching aids at the same time.

After extensive study and thorough preparation, Lesson Plans are prepared, which are effective teaching tools that help in maintaining the flow of lecture in the right direction without any digressions. Interactive lectures are planned to generate students’ interest by provoking inquisitiveness, providing opportunity to question the facts, discussing the practical aspects of the subjects, learning application of the knowledge gained, developing capability to apply mind, analyzing various issues, so that there is real learning on the part of the students. Such meticulous and comprehensive preparation on the part of teachers strengthens the conventional teaching by enhancing students’ participation and in turn results in better learning.
