ODD SEMESTER ACTIVITIES

Book Club Induction

The induction meeting of the Book Club was held on 5th August 2025 at Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management, Ludhiana in the New Seminar Hall. On this occasion, Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar, appreciated the initiative and explained how the Book Club resonates with the college’s vision of promoting intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and holistic student development. He encouraged the students to engage actively in reading and discussions as a means of broadening perspectives beyond academics. The faculty coordinators, Ms. Esha Jain and Dr. Anchal Arora, apprised the students of the working of the club, highlighting that it would provide a platform for book reviews, monthly discussions, and presentation sessions across diverse genres ranging from literature to self-development and contemporary issues. They also explained the two-tier reward policy, where deserving students would be recognized with special titles and, through consistent participation, earn the
prestigious College Colours, thereby adding value to their academic and
extracurricular achievements. The session concluded with an interactive
exchange of ideas where students shared their reading interests, marking a
promising beginning for the club’s activities in the academic year.

Monthly Book Discussion

The monthly meeting of the Book Club of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management was held on 11 September 2025 with enthusiastic participation from students across different classes. The session began with a brief appraisal of the forthcoming activities planned for the semester. Students were informed about upcoming reading challenges, thematic book discussions, and interactive sessions that aim to further strengthen the culture of reading on campus. It was also decided that one common book will be given to all members, for which they will submit a written book review. The best review will be selected and published on the college website, thereby motivating students to engage deeply with the text and refine their critical thinking and writing skills. Several students shared their learning experiences gained through consistent reading practices. They highlighted how regular engagement with diverse books has not only enhanced their vocabulary and comprehension but also broadened their perspective on various social, cultural, and intellectual issues. 6 Members presented the books they had recently completed, giving concise summaries and personal reflections. In addition, students suggested several creative activities peer-to-peer recommendation sessions, and inviting guest authors for interactive talks.

Book Club Presentation

The Book Club at Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management organized a Book Review Competition aimed at fostering love for reading and critical thinking among students on 10-11-2025. The event provided a platform for students to present and discuss the books that inspired them. A total of eleven enthusiastic participants took part in the competition, each presenting a unique perspective on the book they had chosen. The reviews highlighted a diverse range of genres, from fiction to non-fiction, showcasing students’ interest in exploring different literary themes. Participants were evaluated based on their analytical insights, lessons learnt from the book, clarity of expression, and ability to engage the audience. After careful consideration by the judges Dr. Puja Jain and Mr. Mahesh Kumar, Gursahib Singh, Kritika and Jasmeet Kaur were adjudged first, second and third respectively. The competition was a success, encouraging participants to delve deeper into literature and enhancing their critical reading skills. The Principal Prof. (Dr) Vishal Kumar and the management appreciated the efforts of the Book Club and motivated them to host more such events to further cultivate a reading culture on campus. The event was well coordinated by Ms. Esha Jain and Dr. Anchal Arora.

EVEN SEMESTER ACTIVITIES

Silent Book Reading Session

A Silent Book Reading Session for the students of the Book Club was held on 28th January 2026 in the College Library at Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management, Ludhiana. A total of 22 students participated in the session, which was organized with the objective of promoting focused reading, concentration, and a calm learning environment. The participants selected books of their choice from various genres available in the library and engaged in uninterrupted silent reading, allowing them to develop a deeper connection with the texts. The serene library atmosphere provided an ideal setting for reflection and thoughtful engagement. The session was well received by the students, who found the activity peaceful and enriching, and it effectively reinforced the objectives of the Book Club by encouraging regular reading habits and holistic intellectual development.

Book Fair

The Book Club of the college successfully organised a two-day Book Fair on 10th and 11th February 2026 within the college premises with the objective of promoting reading culture and encouraging intellectual engagement among students and faculty members. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the academic community and created a vibrant literary atmosphere on campus. Renowned publishing house Rhino International collaborated in the event and displayed a wide range of books covering academic texts, competitive examination guides, fiction, non-fiction, self-help, and general interest categories, catering to diverse reading preferences. The book fair was formally inaugurated by the Principal, Prof. Dr. Vishal Kumar, who appreciated the initiative taken by the Book Club and highlighted the importance of reading in enhancing critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning among students. He also commended the efforts of the organisers for conceptualising and executing such a meaningful academic activity and encouraged students to take advantage of the fair by developing regular reading habits. The event was meticulously planned and efficiently managed under the guidance of the faculty coordinators, Ms. Esha Jain and Dr. Anchal Arora, whose dedicated efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the fair. From the systematic arrangement of book stalls to effective coordination with the publisher, every aspect of the event reflected thoughtful organisation. The book fair received an encouraging response from students and faculty alike, making it a successful and enriching experience. Overall, the initiative significantly contributed to fostering a culture of reading and academic curiosity within the college.

The session was chaired by Dr. Aashish Garg and coordinated by Ms. Esha Jain and Dr. Anchal Arora. The session began with a brief appraisal of the forthcoming activities planned for the semester. Students were reminded about the reading challenges and interactive sessions designed to further strengthen the culture of reading on campus. Since the common themed book had already been allotted to all members earlier, students were now informed that it was time to submit their written book reviews. The best review will be selected and published on the college website, thereby motivating students to engage deeply with the text and refine their critical thinking and writing skills. Participants were evaluated based on their analytical insights, lessons learnt from the book, clarity of expression, and ability to engage the audience. After careful consideration by the judges Ms. Sarita Arora and Mr. Mahesh Kumar, Mohit Soni and Devansh Jain were adjudged first and second respectively. The competition was a success, encouraging participants to delve deeper into literature and enhancing their critical reading skills. The Principal Prof. (Dr) Vishal Kumar and the management appreciated the efforts of the Book Club and motivated them to host more such events to further cultivate a reading culture on campus. The event was well coordinated by Ms. Esha Jain and Dr. Anchal Arora.

Felicitation Ceremony of Book Club

The Book Club of Sri Aurobindo college of Commerce and Management successfully organized a felicitation ceremony on 17-04-2026 to honour six students who demonstrated exceptional dedication to reading and literary engagement. These students were recognized for successfully presenting three books each, showcasing their understanding, analytical skills, and passion for literature. The highlight of the event was the conferment of the prestigious “Tagore Pioneer” title upon the six students. The awards were presented by the Principal Prof. (Dr). Vishal Kumar, who distributed certificates along with books of the students’ choice as a token of appreciation and encouragement. During the ceremony, the honoured students shared their reading experiences and presented key takeaways from the books they had studied. Their presentations reflected deep insight, critical thinking, and an ability to connect literary themes with real-life perspectives, inspiring fellow students to cultivate reading habits. The principal also addressed the gathering, elaborating on the vision and objectives of the Book Club. He emphasized the importance of reading in personal growth, intellectual development, and fostering creativity among students. The event was meticulously organized by the faculty coordinators, Esha Jain and Dr. Anchal Arora, whose efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the ceremony.  Overall, the felicitation ceremony was a grand success, celebrating academic enthusiasm and encouraging a culture of reading within the college community.

Activities 2024-2025

The Book Club is an initiative to foster a reading culture and intellectual growth within the college. By identifying passionate readers, it aims to inspire others, enhance critical thinking, and promote lifelong learning. The club provides a platform for book discussions, reviews, and collaborative learning while recognizing avid readers as role models.

In the odd semester, key activities included registration, monthly discussions, and book review presentations.

Monthly Discussions– Students were apprised about the Book Club and various activities that are to be conducted over a span of year. The students also discussed the books read and their reading experiences.

The event provided a platform for students to present and discuss the books that inspired them. A total of seven enthusiastic participants took part in the competition, each presenting a unique perspective on the book they had chosen. The reviews highlighted a diverse range of genres, from fiction to non-fiction, showcasing students’ interest in exploring different literary themes. Participants were evaluated based on their analytical insights, clarity of expression, and ability to engage the audience.

The even semester following activities were conducted.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who engaged in uninterrupted reading, selecting books from various genres, including literature, self-improvement, history, and business studies.

Quiz on the Constitution– The Book Club of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management successfully organized a Constitution Quiz focused on Fundamental Rights, Duties, and DPSPs (Directive Principles of State Policy) on 11th April 2025. The objective of conducting the quiz was to enhance students’ knowledge and awareness about the Indian Constitution, its guiding principles, and the rights and duties of every citizen.

Monthly meetings ensured continuous engagement.

To encourage participation, a reward policy has been established, where students earn points in college colours. A suggested reading list has also been issued for the same. Through structured activities and recognition, the Book Club continues to nurture a love for reading, intellectual discussions, and personal growth within the college.
