The Finance and Investment club of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management organized an insightful session on 7th October 2024 by Mr. Varinder Dutta, a certified carrier analyst and an insurance consultant. He focused on the essentials of risk management and financial literacy. He discussed the two primary financial risks: dying too young and living too long. Life insurance was presented as a solution to the former, while retirement planning addressed the latter.
Mr. Dutta stressed the importance of financial literacy for everyone, advocating for its inclusion in educational curricula. He discussed the importance of compounding by explaining the rule of 8-4-3 and rule of 72. He concluded by explaining the basics of financial planning, including budgeting, investment strategies, and retirement planning. The seminar was interactive and highly appreciated, equipping students with practical financial management skills and strategies to better prepare for their financial future. Principal, Dr. Vishal Kumar appreciated the efforts of the club and requested the organizers to continue with such activities in the future also.
The Equity Quest, a virtual trading competition, was successfully organized by Finance and Investment Club from October 10 to October 25, 2024. The event was held in collaboration with StockGro, which provided a virtual trading platform for the participants. This 16-day competition aimed to enhance students’ financial literacy and strategic thinking by giving them hands-on experience in stock trading with virtual funds. Participants engaged in equity trading in a simulated, risk-free environment, striving to achieve the highest portfolio value by the end of the competition.
The event followed a structured format with several key milestones. Each of the 322 participants received virtual capital to begin trading on October 10. Throughout the competition, participants benefited from daily market recaps, progress updates, and a live leaderboard to track their performance. The final trading session concluded on October 25, after which the winners were announced. Ansh Goyal emerged as the 1st place winner, Ishpreet Singh secured 2nd place, and Akshat Basandrai finished in 3rd place. Winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 5100, Rs. 3100 and Rs. 2100 respectively.
The success of Equity Quest highlights the potential for future finance competitions and advanced learning opportunities. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar and Secrectary, Sh.R.K. Rewari, commended the Finance Club’s efforts and encouraged the continuation of such initiatives to further enrich students’ financial knowledge and skills.
The SACCM Finance and Investment Club at Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management organized “Money Heist,” a finance-themed treasure hunt to enhance financial literacy and strategic thinking. The event had two phases—a Quiz (Preliminary Round) and the Treasure Hunt (Main Event)—designed to test problem-solving, teamwork, and financial acumen.
On February 20, 2025, 47 teams competed in a one-hour finance and investment quiz, with the top 10 advancing to the Treasure Hunt on February 24. Participants solved intricate finance-related clues within an hour, with real-time leaderboard updates adding excitement. Team Treasurers secured first place, followed by Team APS in second. Principal Dr. Vishal Kumar praised the student committee members of the Finance and Investment Club for organizing an intellectually stimulating event, emphasizing its role in fostering financial literacy and decision-making skills among students. “Money Heist” successfully blended education with engagement, enhancing participants’ analytical abilities and strategic thinking. The event set a strong precedent for future finance-related competitions at Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management.
The Finance and Investment Club of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management successfully hosted an insightful seminar on Algorithmic Trading on April 8, 2025. The session, held at 1:00 PM in the New Seminar Hall, featured Mr. Manish Malhotra, a seasoned expert in financial markets and Vice-President at Findoc Investmart Private Limited. Students from various courses participated with great enthusiasm, eager to explore the dynamic and rapidly evolving world of algorithmic trading—a method that leverages computer programs and algorithms to execute trading strategies with exceptional speed and accuracy.
Mr. Malhotra initiated the session by outlining the fundamentals of algorithmic trading, emphasizing its growing significance in today’s financial landscape. He elaborated on how automation, data analytics, and machine learning are transforming investment strategies. Key topics such as backtesting techniques, market indicators, trading signals, and risk management were discussed in depth. The session was highly interactive, with Mr. Malhotra fielding numerous questions and enriching the discussion with real-life industry insights. Students walked away with a solid foundational understanding of algorithmic trading and the competencies needed to thrive in this cutting-edge domain.
Overall, the seminar proved to be a resounding success, achieving its objective of bridging academic knowledge with practical financial insights. The Finance and Investment Club remains committed to organizing more such enriching sessions in the future.
