Women Development Cell of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management organized a session on ‘Gender Equality: Is Indian Society and the laws Actually Encouraging it?’ on 27th August, 2026 for the students of B.Com 1st semester and BBA 1st semester. The session commenced with a cordial welcome and the introduction of the distinguished guest speaker by Dr. Robin Kaushal. The resource person, Dr. Aman Amrit Cheema, Professor, University Institute of Law, PU Regional Centre, Ludhiana, delivered an insightful lecture. The session aimed to sensitize students towards the concept of gender equality through real-life cases and landmark examples, including sexual harassment at the workplace, acid attacks, live-in relationships, and the Sabarimala Temple case. The session particularly emphasized the importance of understanding and protecting constitutional and fundamental rights, promoting gender sensitivity, dignity, equality, and respect for every individual. She also introduced contemporary perspectives such as the Gender Diagnostic Model and the Self-Identification Model, encouraging students to develop a more informed, inclusive, and rights-based understanding of gender in contemporary society. It concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, followed by a vote of thanks by Ms. Amandeep Kaur Sidhu. Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar, Principal, SACCM, commended the efforts of the Women Development Cell (WDC) and appreciated the initiative for providing students with a meaningful platform to engage with issues of gender equality, rights, dignity, and social responsibility. He emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive and respectful environment where every individual is aware of their rights and responsibilities.
