An Industrial Visit to Vardhman Special Steels was organised on March 3, 2026, for a batch of 70 students of B.Com 2nd Semester of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management. The students visited the plant in two batches, accompanied by two members of the faculty, Mr. Sahil Ghai and Ms. Ravneet Kaur. SACCM, being deeply conscious of the importance of experiential learning, consistently strives to provide its students with meaningful opportunities that bridge the gap between classroom instruction and industrial realities.

At VSSL, Mr. Krishan, Chief Manager (HR), warmly welcomed the students and offered a comprehensive briefing on the functioning of a steel mill. He explained that the operations of a steel plant are vastly different from other manufacturing units, as stringent safety protocols must be followed even before stepping into any department or shop floor. His address highlighted the discipline, coordination, and technical precision required to sustain large-scale steel production.

The students were subsequently divided into smaller groups for an extensive tour of various shops and departments. As they moved through different sections of the plant, they witnessed the fascinating transformation of raw materials into robust steel billets. They observed how the billets are heated to extremely high temperatures until they attain a molten, gel-like state, then cooled systematically and forwarded to the rolling shop for further refinement and shaping.

The visit to the Research and Development Department proved particularly enlightening, as students were introduced to state-of-the-art machinery, innovative processes, and quality control techniques that ensure product excellence. They were also shown the functioning of industrial furnaces and gained insights into the meticulous processes that underpin steel production.

The visit was designed not only to provide first-hand industrial exposure but also to deepen students’ understanding of production management, supply chain coordination, human resource practices, safety compliance, quality assurance, and technological advancement in the steel sector. It aimed at cultivating analytical thinking, enhance awareness of industrial challenges, and foster an appreciation for teamwork and operational efficiency. Furthermore, the experience encouraged students to relate theoretical concepts from subjects such as business management, economics, and accounting to real-world industrial applications.

Overall, the industrial visit proved to be immensely enriching, intellectually stimulating, and professionally inspiring. It broadened the students’ horizons and instilled in them a greater respect for industrial discipline and innovation. A heartfelt note of gratitude is extended to Sh. R.K. Rewari, Secretary, Governing Body, SACCM, and Principal Dr. Vishal Kumar for their visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to enhancing students’ pragmatic knowledge and holistic development.
