Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management, Ludhiana, organized an industrial visit on 19th February 2025 for the students of B.Com 6th and M.Com 1st semester to Avon Cycles Limited, one of the leading bicycle manufacturers in India. A group of 59 students attended the visit, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Prerna Ahuja and Ms. Anchal Arora. The visit began with a warm welcome by Dr. Deepak Jain, who introduced the students to the legacy and operations of Avon Cycles. He provided insights into the manufacturing processes, quality control measures, and technological advancements used in bicycle production. The students were then guided on a detailed tour of the facility by Mr. Anupam and Mr. Dalip from the HR department, who explained various stages of production, including steel pipe cutting, fork and frame assembly, electrostatic paint application in the paint shop, and packaging of stickers and model numbers. They also learned about wheel assembling, semi knock-down packaging, and complete knock-down packaging for exports. The facility dispatches around 10,000 cycles daily for the local Indian market, while the Neelo plant caters to exports for Europe. The students visited the receipt area for visual inspection of materials, followed by the mechanical shop, which includes a dealer replacement area and export packing section. They were introduced to the mechanical lab, where seat testing and complete cycle testing are conducted. The complete cycle testing involves a 75kg weight endurance test for five hours to ensure quality standards. The showroom displayed a variety of bicycles, including the premium Europe-specific brand, Cambio. The technical team demonstrated the working of automated machinery, computerized control systems, and supply chain logistics in the bicycle manufacturing industry. The session provided practical exposure to industrial operations and helped students understand real-world business and production challenges.
They were impressed by the scale of operations and the precision involved in delivering high-quality bicycles. The students found the visit highly informative and engaging. Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar, acknowledged the importance of industrial visits in bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical industry exposure. He emphasized that such visits enhance students’ understanding of business processes, technology integration, and career opportunities in the manufacturing sector. The visit to Avon Cycles Limited proved to be a valuable learning experience, equipping students with first-hand knowledge of the operations, challenges, and innovations in the bicycle industry.
