The Research and Faculty Development Committee (RFDC) of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management successfully organized a two-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Qualitative Research in the Age of AI” on 2nd and 3rd June 2026. The programme witnessed active participation from faculty members across various disciplines. The FDP commenced with a welcome address by the RFDC Coordinator, Dr. Robin Kaushal. The inaugural session was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar, Principal, who underscored the increasing significance of qualitative research in the contemporary academic landscape. He emphasized the need for researchers to embrace emerging technological advancements, particularly artificial intelligence, while upholding the principles of academic rigor and research integrity.

The sessions were conducted by Dr. Tejinderpal Singh, who explained the fundamentals of qualitative research and its distinction from quantitative research. He discussed the six layers of qualitative research and elaborated on their role in generating meaningful and context-rich insights. A significant focus of the programme was the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in qualitative research. Dr. Singh emphasized that AI is a facilitator that can assist researchers in tasks such as data organization, but it cannot replace the researcher’s role in interpretation, critical thinking, and theory building. He provided an in-depth understanding of various qualitative research designs, including Narrative Research, Phenomenology, Grounded Theory, Ethnography, and Case Study Research. He also highlighted the subtle yet important differences among these approaches and stressed the importance of selecting an appropriate design for studying a phenomenon effectively. The second day included hands-on practical sessions that enabled participants to apply the concepts learned during the programme. Through interactive activities and discussions, faculty members gained deeper insights into qualitative research methodologies and their application in contemporary research.

The FDP concluded with an interactive discussion session. The programme was highly informative and enriching, enhancing the participants’ understanding of qualitative research and its integration with AI. Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar, Principal and RFDC committee expressed their gratitude to Dr. Tejinderpal Singh for his valuable insights and expertise. The Faculty Development Programme was meticulously organized by the Research and Development Committee, ensuring its smooth and successful conduct.
