Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management hosted an engaging session on ‘Science of Managing Stress and Unlocking Happiness’ on October 18, 2024 under Shape the Mind Programme. Dr. Gurbir Singh, Assistant Professor at IIM Amritsar, acted as the resource person. He offered valuable insights into the physiological and psychological aspects of stress. During his presentation, he posed thought-provoking questions about the nature of true happiness and explained how our evolving goals shape our sense of well-being. He introduced the concepts of upward and downward counterfactual thinking. He emphasized that while we often pursue happiness through money, this approach provides only a limited sense of control over our lives. Dr. Singh also discussed the significant impact of social media on our happiness, noting that its constant exposure to curated lifestyles and opinions can pressure us to seek validation and approval from others. This pursuit can lead to a cycle of comparison, ultimately detracting from our own fulfilment. He shed light on the challenges of finding happiness in today’s world, providing participants with practical tips to improve their mental well-being. By sharing his life experiences, he made an effort to make students reflect on the importance of prioritizing their happiness amidst external pressures. This engaging session equipped the students with invaluable knowledge and inspired them to take proactive steps towards achieving lasting well-being.
