Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management on October 31, 2023 organised a session on the topic ‘Critical Thinking: Image Reflections using FIRAC Model’ under ‘Shape the Mind Programme.’ The resource person for the expert talk was Dr. M Joseph John, Associate Director, Professor & Head, Department of Clinical Haematology, Haemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow (Stem Cell) Transplantation, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana. Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar, extended a formal welcome to the guest, and in his own unique style wished for his more such cognitive visits in the institution. Mr. Sahil Ghai welcomed the guest with rare warmth. Dr. John dwelt upon the subject of Critical Thinking. He explained the concept with real life examples. In his highly informative session, he explained the tools involved in critical thinking process. He said that critical thinking can solve even the biggest problems of life and if a person is good at critical thinking, he can pass even the hardest rubicon with utmost ease. He at length discussed 5W1H and FIRAC methods of critical thinking. He discussed Samsung case study with students so that students could connect to the topic easily. He divided the students into 5 groups and made every group perform different tasks. Groups were further asked to choose their leaders. For the completion of task, groups were allotted some time. After that time, leaders of different groups were called and were asked to share their observations. This way students were fully involved and absorbed in critical thinking exercise. The session was quite inviting, informative and pragmatic. The students stand gained a lot from the expertise of the learned resource person. The session was well coordinated by Dr. Puja Jain, Mr. Sahil Ghai and Mr. Vinay Dawar.
